Kid-Pitch

Starting this month, Jonathan will be playing full-on, kid-pitch, base-stealing, competitive USSSA baseball. I took some pics of their first practice at it, and actually captured Jonathan’s first kid-pitch hit. He does really well. He makes a great pitcher too! Jonathan’s primary position is catcher, and sometimes 3rd base. We are so excited to play our first tourney (whenever that may be).

Bye-Bye Baseball

The recreation baseball season is over, so that means no more baseball for Aaron and Caleb. Jonathan’s season is still going since he’s playing competitive. The boys did great this season, and their team tied for 3rd place in the league. The Redbirds ended the season with a party and trophies at McAlister’s Deli. I know they’re missing it. Aaron told me, “I sure wish we were still playing baseball.” We’ll be going strong again next year though. I think to pass the time this Fall, we’re going to let them play soccer again.

Here are a few pics of the boys hard at work on the baseball field…

Redbirds and Red Sox

Baseball season is well underway again.  We’ve been at it for over 3 weeks now, and we’re loving every second of it.  There have been some wins and some losses for both teams, but all the games have been nail-biters.

Caleb (Redbirds) plays around in the outfield mostly; but he scored the winning run the last game, and was so excited.  He told Jeff, who was coaching first base, “I’ve never done this before!  This is fun!  I love baseball!” It was his very first hit in a game, so we celebrated with ice cream . . . even though it was already 9:00 on a school night when we left the ballpark.

Aaron (Redbirds) has been playing 3rd base, and is making some good stops.  He has also had a couple of good hits. He’s learning and is going to make a really good ballplayer!

Jonathan (Red Sox) has played 3rd base, and is most needed as catcher.  On 3rd, he caught a pop-up; and at catcher, he’s made some good plays and has even tagged some kids out at home.

End of Baseball Season

Jonathan’s season ended with a close game, but disappointing loss.  His team fought hard, but didn’t quite make it to the championship round a couple of weekends ago.  Jonathan played some awesome games, and came within a foot of hitting a homerun over the left-field fence.  I know I sound like a typical baseball mom, but had the wind not been blowing into the direction the ball was heading, it would have gone over; and Dad would’ve been jumping in the pond to retrieve it!  We’re extremely proud of him and the progress he’s made this year.  We’re also glad to get a little break before we start again next March!

Until then, enjoy these pics.

Just Have Fun!

The Spartans’ third tournament two weekends ago was quite a doozie!  We were placed in a really difficult pool, and lost every game.  It was tough for some of the players, but Jonathan wasn’t really phased by the loss too much.  He still has a good time just playing the game of baseball.  We have one more tournament in two weekends, and we’re done this year.  It was great that Jonathan had a couple of months of extra practice.  Although he’s not quite ready to stop playing, Mom and Dad are looking forward to slowing down a little!

Here are some pics of our Bruiser…

Spartans Defeated

Jonathan’s team played in another tournament this weekend, but didn’t come out victorious.  We lost all four games we played.  I’m pretty sure the coaches are planning some tough practices for the next two weeks to get the team better prepared for the tournament in two weekends.  I think we’re playing in two more tournaments, and then fall ball will be over.  We’re all ready for a little break and are looking forward to just hanging out!  Here are some pictures of this weekend’s tournament.

Fall Ball

This fall, we are excited that Jonathan is playing baseball for the Senatobia Spartans.  He is so happy to continue playing, and Jeff and I are glad about the experience of playing competitively.  This is a great opportunity for him!

We had our first tournament this past weekend, where we played many teams who’ve been playing together longer than our team.  Some teams have been together for 2 years, and most have been playing in tournaments for a month.  Saturday was full with three games on the schedule for our team.  In our first game, the Spartans played hard, but lost by 3 points.  We didn’t do so well our second game and lost by a lot.  But our third game went much better and we almost shut out our opponent.  Since we lost 2 games, our team was put into the consolation championship bracket.

On Sunday, our kids showed up to play ball!  We won our first game by a lot, which put us in the consolation championship game against the Cardinals team, coached by Jonathan’s recreation and All-Star coaches.  It was fun to see many of Jonathan’s friends from our previous teams.  The game began with a pretty tight score; but by the 5th inning, the game ended with the Spartans celebrating the victory!  Our first tournament to play together, we won the Consolation Championship.  Our boys were so excited to receive their trophies!

We’ll be playing again next weekend so check back later for more baseball news!

Batting Cage

So, baseball is officially over for now.  We’re missing it like crazy, but the free time has given Jeff the opportunity to finally build the batting cage he’s been wanting to build for our little athletes.  Too bad this couldn’t have been built a couple of months ago before our car window was busted due to a ball being thrown into the air.  Anyway, here are a few pics of Jeff working with Jonathan.

Redbirds Game

Last weekend, we took the boys and met some friends to eat and watch the Redbirds kick some Royals tail!  We also invited one of Jonathan’s best buds, Jake.  The boys pet a snake at the gate, ate some ice cream and cotton candy, and Jonathan even got a ball at the end of the game.  It’s always fun watching the Redbirds play, and it’s getting even better as they all take more interest in the game of baseball.  Here are a few pics of our grand time at Autozone Park.
